2022 10U Birchwood Summer Classic
May 13-15, 2022
Morton Girls Softball Association and Morton Mystics are excited to welcome you to the 2022 Birchwood Summer Classic Tournament!
All games will be played at Birchwood Park. The address for the tournament is 349 W. Birchwood St. in Morton, IL.
We ask that all players, fans, and coaches follow our park rules and always exhibit good sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Birchwood Park does not allow smoking, drinking, or dogs on the premises.
Coaches are required to check-in prior to their first game. A signed copy of the team’s USA Softball tournament roster and proof of insurance must be turned in at check-in. Coaches may email these ahead of time to email@example.com. Birth certificates should be available to provide upon request.
Please do not bring coolers or food into the park. Our concession stand will be open throughout the tournament. All concession proceeds are used for facility maintenance, tournament expenses, and low tournament fees (no gate fees!). Your support is greatly appreciated!
This tournament is a three-game guarantee, weather permitting. Awards for 1st and 2nd places will be awarded.
In the event of inclement weather, the Tournament Director has the right to make any changes to play as needed.
Refund policy will be as follows:
60% of tournament fees refunded if only 1 game played.
30% of tournament fees refunded if only 2 games played.
No refunds if the minimum 3 games are played.
Tournament will be a 3-game guarantee bracket. Home team decided by coin flip for all games except championship game. For championship game only, following will be used to determine home team:
Fewest runs allowed
Most runs scored
Games will be timed, and no new inning will start after 75 minutes. Game times are staggered based on 1 hour and 30-minute windows. We ask all teams to immediately exit the dugouts upon completion of their game (unless playing on that field for the next game) to keep the schedule moving. Please be sure to collect all equipment and trash when leaving the dugout.
All teams must be ready to start their game up to 30 minutes early (except for first games of the day).
Tie breakers will utilize the USA Softball standard tie breaker rule until a winner is determined.
Tournament will operate on a NO PROTEST format.
Run rule will be 12 runs after 3 innings, 10 runs after 4 innings, and 8 runs after 5 innings.
All teams must communicate their game scores to the Tournament Director (or confirm with the concession stand). Contact details for the tournament director will be provided at the start of the tournament. Any inquiries prior to that point should be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Weather – In the event of rain or other schedule disruptions, head coaches only will receive communications from the tournament director. We ask coaches to please relay details to their teams.
In the event a game is called due to inclement weather, the game will resume from its point of interruption. Home team’s scorer will be responsible for noting the necessary information and confirming with the visitor team.
Roster batting will be allowed. If a team utilizes roster batting, they must have a minimum of 10 players, and all must be included on the batting order submitted prior to the start of the game. They will be allowed free substitution during the game and any players arriving late can be added in the last position of the batting order. Teams batting 9 or fewer players are not considered batting roster and must abide by USA Softball rules.
The home team will be the official scorekeeper. Scores should be verified every ½ inning by the visiting team.
Teams are not to warm-up on the infield. Pitchers (and catchers) may warm up on the dirt alongside the dugouts. No infield practicing behind the basepaths on the dirt.
This tournament is sanctioned and will be governed by USA Softball rules with exceptions, as noted within this document, to accommodate our tournament play.
Thank you for joining us. We are looking forward to a great weekend of softball!
